Research Article

Our research project is all about the effectiveness of the banana peelings as substitute for commercial charcoal in cooking rice. We made a substitute for commercial charcoal by producing a new product with the use of banana peelings under the process of destructive distillation.

The procedure:
first, we collected plenty of banana peelings from people who were in the business of selling banana cues. It was not hard for us since we have a “suki” outside of the school. Next, we washed all the peelings and get a mortar and pestle and we pound them. We then removed its juice and were then placed under the heat of the sun and was dried. Next, we placed the dried peelings into a small metallic container and then we started to expose it to destructive distillation. After, we already produced a product. Next, we got two pieces of identical cauldrons and place two same mass of rice and place it to each of the cauldrons. Next, we placed the same amount of water to the set-ups and started to cook the rice. One using the banana peeling charcoal, the other using the commercial charcoal. We waited until the both set-ups finished cooking. We then record their time of cooking the rice for the two different set-ups and then computed their significant mean difference using t-test. The set-up was successful since the outcome was not significant. Hence, it is comparable. We can use banana peeling charcoal as substitute for commercial charcoal.

And the judgment day came. We were very happy when Madam Lapa called our names and that we won third place in the Science Congress. We were very ecstatic at that time. We never expected that our group will win an award because honestly speaking, we were really unprepared during the whole activity. We were even late during the Science Congress. It just show that we were really not ready yet for our project. But still, we tried our best to finish everything. And indeed it pays to know that our sacrifices were really given a reward.

Our group is really aiming for the best research paper because we want to prove to ourselves and to our parents that we really worked hard on it and that we are really dedicated on our work. Good luck to our group. Hope we will succeed on our aim guys.
